"The grilled cheese that makes you smile!"? Yes please! For my eighth taste test I decided to get cheesy. With a slogan like that, how could I not? Cheezen is a little take-away window hidden behind Olde Queens Tavern on the corner of Easton Avenue & Mine Street. I was ready to walk up & take my (cheesy) food home until I saw a sign advertising Cheezen seating in Queens. So I walked in to the bar and sat down to order my grilled cheese. One look at the menu & I was in awe. They had a seemingly-endless list of different grilled cheeses with different fillings & toppings & cheeses & breads, along with sides like Mac & cheese, cheese fries, Mac & cheese bites, and of course, tomato soup. It took me a while to decide but I finally ordered the "Traditional Grilled Cheese" and a side of Mac & cheese. I sipped my water (at a table inside Queens) & patiently waited for my food. When it finally came out I could not wait to dive in. My first bite of the grilled cheese was INCREDIBLE. Bacon, tomato, & melty American cheese between two crispy, buttery slices of sourdough bread, how could it not have been delicious? I took a few more bites & decided to slow myself down & try the Mac & cheese. Honestly, this was very underwhelming & a little disappointing. I really enjoyed the top layer which was covered in melty cheese sauce, but when I got past that it was sort of dry. I mean, I still ate the whole thing but I was expecting more. Overall, my grilled cheese experience was definitely amazing & I can't wait to go back for another. Next time though, I would like to try their cheese fries or the fried Mac & cheese bites. Head down to taste for yourself or order for delivery if you're feelin' lazy!
