For my third taste test, I decided to treat myself to a delicious Mediterranean cuisine on Friday night. I walked in to the seemingly-tiny shop on the corner of Easton Avenue and Somerset Street and didn't expect much. It looked like your average pizza place, but with gyros and musakka? A host caught my eye & asked if I would like to eat there or take my food to go. I answered with a polite "here please" and he lead me upstairs into a dimly-lit loft with tables and fancy wine glasses at each plate setting. When I sat down on the couch-looking booth, the waiter handed me a menu that barely looked English. Adana yogurt, iskender kebab, etli bamya...? When I flipped to the page that read "Chicken & Lamb Entrees", I felt a little more comfortable. I ordered a chicken kebab entree. "Tender chunks of chicken marinated with chef’s own blend of herbs and spices. Served with side bread, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and rice or French fries," that sounds safe, right? As I was waiting for my meal to come out, the waiter brought out a basket of pita bread with white yogurt sauce & red sauce for dipping & both were DELICIOUS. I killed the whole pita basket (which I think was meant to be saved to enjoy with my meal, but he brought another anyway), then my meal came out. It was gorgeous - beautiful colorful veggies, soft white rice, and chunks of spiced grilled chicken. I dove right in & ate the whole thing (I really should've timed myself because it would've been impressive). Overall, I definitely recommend Efes if you're in the mood for something thats not Brower, and they deliver if you're feelin' lazy! Check out the rest of their menu at www.efesgrill.com.
